Gosford Specialist Day Hospital offers Direct Access Colonoscopy for eligible patients, allowing your GP to refer you for a colonoscopy without an initial specialist consultation. This service is available for specific indications, such as a history of polyps or a positive faecal occult blood test.

Procedure Overview:
Colonoscopy is a safe and effective procedure to examine the large intestine for conditions such as polyps, cancer, or inflammation. It is performed under light general anaesthetic, typically takes 20–30 minutes, and requires bowel preparation the day before.
After the procedure:
Risks:
Though rare, risks include bowel perforation (1 in 1,000 cases) and bleeding after polyp removal or biopsy.
Fees:
Privately Insured: There will be no out of pocket cost for specialist, anaesthetist or pathology. Patients will only be required to pay the hospital excess based on their insurance policy.
Uninsured: Patients without insurance are encouraged contact us for a quote.
